Helen Margaret Moody of Dorrigo, living in Coffs Harbour at the time, was voted by members of the Coffs Harbour Ski Club to represent Coffs Harbour in the contest.

The Star Motel Coffs Harbour, owned by Mr Nolan, sponsored the competition and held the NSW Water Ski Queen Contest Ball. Photographs of Helen were taken at the Star Motel's pool (where a boat was put in for the occasion) and at the Ball in the Star Motel's reception room.
