CreatorGlen WilkinsonTitleMusic RattleDate2017MediumNew Zealand flax, beach stones and shellsDimensionsH. 4.5cm x W. 17cm x D. 4.5cm Artist StatementThrough an answered prayer for a creative passion, and within the ongoing journey, I have explored various artistic disciplines, including photography, painting, sculpture, theatrical performance, set and costume design and Fibre art; all to varying degrees of absorption and level of personal achievement.
In pursuing Fibre art, I have endeavored to create both practical and ornamental forms, using both naturally replenishable Fibres and repurposed synthetic waste materials addressing aesthetic and sometimes social commentary themes.
Fibres are selected from pruning and natural discarded materials, or from synthetic waste and are assembled into artworks; inspired by traditional or contemporary 3D expressions or by existing natural forms.
The desired result is achieved through working toward a perceived vision or through allowing spontaneity to affect the creative process, both approaches providing its lessons and rewards.
In the viewer of my work, I wish to encourage individual self-expression, an appreciation of the beauty of the natural world and its materials, to find joy in the creative process and a sense of achievement at all levels of personal involvement.Accession Number083.2019Access AdviceFor research purposes only.
