The Don Dorrigo Gazette and Guy Fawkes Advocate was established in 1910 by Roy and Reginald Vincent. It is still being published today as The Don Dorrigo Gazette and is the last letterpress newspaper in Australia.

The closure will likely hurt the Gazette's long-time older readers, some of whom have subscriptions lasting more than four decades.

"The elderly generation don't use social media, and they're the ones who are going to miss out," Mr English said.

"When I used to come over for my holidays, I used to write the labels for the subscription readers, and some of the names are still there."

It is also the end of an era for the Gazette's pre-World War II Heidelberg printing press, which has been in Dorrigo for about 40 years.

Mr English estimated it had printed an astronomical figure of papers in that time and had served multiple roles.

"It would have to be in the millions of impressions that it's actually done because at night they used to print labels for the butter factory here when they used to produce butter," he said.

Mr English said the historic machine would not go to waste, with plans to rehouse it at the Penrith Printing Museum in Sydney, where it will retain the front page press of the Gazette, unchanged since 1910.
