When war, famine, disaster and persecution mean we have to flee our homes, what do we bring with us?
How do we hold and cherish memories in such extreme circumstances?
How do objects from home help us settle, and find peace and belonging in a new home?
Share the stories of students, who have come to Coffs Harbour as refugees and migrants, through the objects they have brought with them. These objects may be simple but they are important carriers of meaning – holding memories and feelings about friends and family, journeys and the experiences of settling in a new home. They also provide insights into why people seek asylum or migrate to another country. Global issues and events are given a personal face.
The stories and objects can be viewed by clicking on the photographs below.
