This aeroplane is a Koolhoven FK41, manufactured in Holland and imported into Australia in September 1929. It received Australian registration VH-ULX. It had a number of owners. It was destroyed in a crash at Condobolin, NSW, on 9 November 1937.

The photo was taken after the aeroplane crashed attempting to take off at Coffs Harbour on 1st August 1934. It veered off the runway, hitting an obstacle and damaged one wing, the propeller and the undercarriage. The pilot Frank Higginson and one passenger were unhurt.

The aircraft was repaired and flown to Archerfield in Brisbane several days later. 

The same plane made a forced landing on the beach at Diggers Headland on 4th  January 1936 after an engine failure, with no damage.

The newspaper incorrectly identified the plane as a Desoutter as Koolhoven airplanes were also manufactured under licence in Britain by the Desoutter Aircraft Company.
