Hector (Hec) Goodall was instrumental in establishing the Pet Porpoise Pool, renamed Dolphin Marine Magic and now known as the Dolphin Marine Conversation Park. Its role in rescuing injured or orphaned marine animals began in 1970. 

Walkabout magazine, in 1971, introduced it so: "... Coffs Harbour with its exceptionally attractive setting is proving the fastest-growing resort town along the coast, according to Mr Allan Grant of the New South Wales Tourist Bureau. Its $200,000 oceanarium, completed only in December, had already become a major tourist attraction...' Walkabout, June, 1971, p.31

Rare sunfish found on northern beach. "A sunfish, rarely seen in waters off the north coast of New South Wales, has been found dead on Korora Beach at Coffs Harbour. Pool manager Mr Hec Goodall said sunfish were rarely seen in waters along the coast." Australian Fisheries, September, 1974, p.7

Antarctic seal at home in Coffs Harbour. "A leopard seal found injured on a beach north of Coffs Harbour in New South Wales is now alive and well in a nearby oceanarium. The young male seal was discovered at Wooli Beach, 65km off Coffs Harbour, on August 30. It was usffering fro cuts, ulcers and parasites, and was apparently starving. However after veterinary treatment at the Coffs Harbour Oceanarium it recovered completely. Oceanarium managing director Hec Goodall reports that the two-metre-long seal, named Leopold by Oceanarium staff, was force fed for five days - 'a somewhat risky undertaking due to his set of formidable teeth; - and given antibiotics and anti-parasitic medication." New Zealand fur seal pup finds safe home at Coffs Harbour. "The young fur seal (Arctocephalus forsteri) was found on July 16 washed up on the beach at Hungary [sic]  Head, near Coffs Harbour, by local reserve caretaker  Bill Dorsett. Mr Dorsett notified Coffs Harbour Pet Porpoise Pool proprietor Hec Goodall. The male pup responded to treatment and under the name of Wistful is now an attraction at the aquarium." Australian Fisheries, October, 1978, p.29

Leopard seals. "A female leopard seal pup was washed ashore on Boambee Beach near Coffs Harbour in northern New South Wales recently. The seal pup, which was suffering from starvation, marine ulcers, injuries to the right eye and a severe cut to the jaw, was taken to Coffs arbour's Pet Porpoise Pool, where it responded well to antibiotice treatment. The pool's managing director, Mr Hec Goodall, said recently the pup was eating 30 kg of mullet a day and would shortly be transferred to the main seal pool." Australian Fisheries, November, 1980, p.35.
