Souvenirs are a key part of the material culture of tourism, a way for local businesses to make a bit of money and for visitors to take part of their beachside holiday home. They are cheap, collectable mementos, leaning heavily on a kitsch aesthetic. Teaspoons, tea towels and small pieces of crockery abound; they are often brightly coloured and in our neck of the woods feature bananas, big and small.
Renowned as a tourist town, Coffs Harbour has produced its fair share of souvenirs. Here are some examples from the collections of the Coffs Harbour Regional Museum.
