Frederick was born in Bathurst and Clunie in Woodford Leigh, Maclean. They had five children, three boys and two girls. In 1904, they bought land at Orara. Their farm was known as Fairview and is still in the family.
Tragically, Fred drowned while crossing Wongiwomble Creek on 4th February 1922. After his death, Clunie continued running the property and also took on the role of mail contractor for Upper Orara and Dairyville. She used a horse and sulky for delivering the mail, until her son Arthur took over using a motorcycle.
