Evening gown
Designed by Jean Allen of London. She was a very popular designer in the 1960’s. The top is machine embroidered and backless. The skirt consists of three layers of green chiffon, an underskirt of cream taffeta and the final layer is a tulle petticoat with a metal band sewn into the hem to hold the skirt out.
Description
Silk chiffon evening gown in autumn colours, half brocade yoke.
Top: Cream satin with lightly coloured embroidery picked out in gold threads, lined (sleeves too) in cream. Front has slightly curved neckline; back has deep curve.
Band: Mustard coloured velve, doubled; back shows buckle on band.
Skirt: Very closely gathered creating a vast hem line (sewn and very narrow). There are five skirts - top 3 are avocado green and very fine; fourth is cream as for lining of top; the fifth is white stiff net with a hoop sewn into its hem. At waist at back hooped skirt (hooked on individually / sewn in; zip at back on this skirt - cream with silver teeth.
