Leather leggings were used by cavalry riders during World War I to protect the rider's legs from flying rocks and shrapnel.
These leggings are believed to have belonged to local soldier Gunner John Ferrett. He enlisted on 6 September 1915 and returned to Australia 1 1 November 1917.
