This silver medal and certificate of merit were awarded to Miss Thelma Shea, then aged 18. She displayed not only bravery but commendable resource in rescuing a woman carried out in heavy seas on April 13th 1925 [sic] at Coffs Harbour.
Description
Silver medal in a presentation box. The medal is attached to a navy and gold ribbon and reads: 'Awarded to Thelma Shea for saving life, Coffs Harbour, 13 April 1924.' The back of the medal is decorated with a shipwreck scene and an angel, and features the Latin phrase: 'Sunt lacrymae rerum sunt et sua praemia laudi'. The box is black and lined with blue felt. Embossed on the top in gold is: 'Royal Shipwreck Relief & Humane Society of NSW'.
