Born in 1950, Warwick Gilbert is a native of Sydney, Australia and worked in the animation industry as a director, animator and storyboard artist for such companies as Burbank Films, Hanna Barbera and Walt Disney from 1968 to 2006.
During this period Warwick had a dual career as a graphic designer, and as bass player in Radio Birdman (inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame in 2007).
Following the closure of Walt Disney's Australian studio in 2006, and after a successful joint exhibition called The Art of Radio Birdman in Sydney's Double Bay, Warwick moved to Coffs Harbour with his wife Julie Mostyn, to focus on his art.
Warwick was a finalist in the 2013 Archibald Portrait Prize, and a semi-finalist in the 2014 and 2015 Moran Prize.
