The original Coffs Harbour Public School was a slab building constructed in 1885, its location no longer known. The first school on the Gordon Street site was built in 1896 and replaced in 1906. The school buildings on the Gordon Street site were dismantled and re-erected, with extensions to accommodate 200 children, at a new site on the corner of Jetty Road and Salamander Street in 1914. More new classrooms and a manual training room were added in 1921.
