The RAAF operated 44 of these aircraft from 1929 to the end of WWII. David Nicol was the Superintendent of the local Shell depot.

The roundel (the circular identification mark) on the underside of the wing was adopted by the British Royal Flying Corps and its successor the Royal Air Force to identify their aircraft to other aircraft and ground forces in 1914. Nations within the British empire, including Australia, also adopted these markings although some changes have been made since gaining independence.
