This is not the original bakery oven. It is believed to be used on the site in the era of Wakeley's commercial bakery.
Sparse documentary records indicate that a bakery operated consistently at the rear of 13 First Avenue, Sawtell from the 1920s to the 1970's.
Newspaper records indicate that the following proprietors operated the bakery: Mr David Kidd (1924 to early 1930s); the Oshea family (1930s to September 1952); co-jointly by Mr J Jeffery and Mrs P Johnson; and Mr and Mrs W Wakely (1960s).
