Collection of Red Rock History
During 2021, Red Rock's Collection of Red Rock History (CoRRH) group provided access to its photographic collection to the Coffs Harbour Regional Museum for digitisation. These photographs, dating from 1920 through to 2020, provided by individuals and families in the Red Rock community, record their various experiences of events and growth of this beautiful, low-key holiday village on the Corindi River estuary.
Red Rock is much loved by its visitors and residents who take great delight and pride in its natural beauty and relaxed lifestyle. Many of the owners of these historical and family photographic memories are grandchildren of the early European visitors when Red Rock first became the holiday destination of choice for families from the Clarence Valley, particularly Grafton, and New England. Those close associations remain today.
The collection includes photos of:
- The Red Rock/Corindi Aboriginal Band which played at both Corindi and Red Rock during the 1920s and 1930s;
- New Year's Day sports from 1930 to 2020 which were hosted by successive Red Rock Reserve Trusts (community-based reserve management Boards until their dismantling by Crown Lands in 2003);
- Red Rock/Corindi Surf Life Saving Club (founded in 1991);
- Red Rock Multi-Use Centre (opened 1989); and
- Corindi River and estuary life from the 1930s until 2020
The CoRRH group are based out of Lynch Cottage on Park Street, Red Rock.
NB: references in the collection to "Red Rock River" equates to the Redbank or Corindi River
