James and Sara McClymont were married in 1875. They had seven children before settling in Karangi in 1888, and son Gavin was born two years later.

Their property was on the opposite side of Wongiwomble Creek, to his brother Colin. Later the rail line went through the property and the station was also on it. They named the farm 'Fernside'. Their family was: Lillian, Colin, Maud, Jessie, Hugh, Daisy, Charles and Gavin.
