James Alexander Sullivan sworn Said: Am agent for the N.C.S.N. and AIlen Taylor and reside at Coff's Harbor; the N.C. Co.; only carry timber; Taylor only gets sleepers; The N.C. Co., carry all Taylor's timber; had been up north over 20 years; had been amongst timber all his life; the timber industry had not increased during last 12 months ironbark was not shipped here, but was taken away from Woolgoolga. The timber here is equal to any on the coast; blackbutt is the predominating species; tallow-wood is better than blackbutt; there is also a quantity of mahogany; had all sleepers inspected before shipping; pay the royalty on sleepers for Allen Taylor and Co., don't think the Co. sell rejected sleepers; have shipped about 2000 sleepers during the last six months; do not trade..

On 8 April 1892, Allen Bate's mother Martha married Henry Taylor [NSW BDM 05653/1892]. She died a few months later on 16 July. Her will refers to her son as Allen Bate; one of her funeral notices refers to him as Allen Taylor. Her will leaves land to her husband - with land titles recorded before 1892 using his surname.
