Jagun Yamarr translates to home fish or country fish. The works in this exhibition are presented by Aboriginal community working with Southern Cross University and the National Marine Science Centre on photographic inventories of marine species in Gumbaynggirr sea country. Jagun Yamarr showcases language, knowledge and culture through an array of dazzling marine species and mediums. The Gumbaynggirr names are displayed alongside scientific names of the local fish that inhabit the river, nearshore reef and rocky shores around Gumbaynggirr jagun.
