“Sometime in the 1960s someone (no idea who) mentioned that China (The Dragon) had been asleep for a long time, and was about to wake up. I was curious about this and did a little research at the time and made some drawings, one which still exists. I didn’t think a lot more about it probably until the Tiananmen Square protest of 1989 occurred.
From then on I have been watching events to do with the rise (awakening) of the dragon, which now appears to be fully awake. I believe China has had a significant influence on the whole of the world in all sorts of ways and will continue to do so.
My works in relation to China for the past few years are just a reflection of my thoughts on China’s influence on everything.”
