Description
Cast iron industrial platform scales, painted cream. Embossed in the header above the barrel of the scale is: "The Computing Scale Co./Dayton, O. U.S.A." These scales were often used in general stores to weigh groceries and meat. The platform where the object was placed for weighing is oval-shaped with a white marble top and a concrete-like base. Unknown as to whether this marble platform is the original platform or not.
The Computing Scale Company was formed in 1895, then in 1911 merged with other companies and changed its name. Hence the production of these scales can be narrowed to between 1895-1911.
