Coffs Harbour's second Post Office, timber with a galvanised roof, was erected on J.T. McKittrick's land near present day McLean Street. Occupied in November 1895, these rented premises served the Postal Department for 15 years. It replaced the previous post office which was on the verge of a swamp with no water tank, no chimney or lavatory.
The town's first Government-owned post office building opened on 8 August 1910 on the corner of Grafton and West High Streets. It was re-modelled with a brick frontage in 1938.
