Description
A pencil and ink drawing of an underground ore mine. It shows two deep shafts (one indicated as being 5' wide) leading down to the stopes, the drive, and the gold bearing quartz reef. There is also an open cut section where the reef meets the surface. The diagram states that the reef varied in thickness from 9" to 3'6" (c.23cm - 107cm), and that in each stope the ore was taken from the bottom of the drive to a bucket lowered down the shaft.
This diagram may possibly be connected to the Beacon Mine near Coramba, or Georges Mine near Lowanna, which had both open cut and underground gold mines.
