Description
A small cream-coloured motor spirit ration ticket with orange print. The ticket has perforated edges indicating the ticket has been separated from a larger sheet of tickets. Issued in NSW but valid in all states of Australia, this Series B ticket permitted the holder to purchase one gallon of petrol. The tickets were not transferrable and had to be endorsed by the consumer in ink with their name, licence number and vehicle registration number.
Motor spirit ration tickets were a form of fuel rationing in Australia, particularly NSW, during the World War II era to manage liquid fuel consumption. These tickets, issued by the Commonwealth Liquid Fuel Control Board, came in different values and colours. "Series B" designated a particular series of these tickets, which could include different denominations like 1 or 2 gallons. One gallon tickets were usually orange, two gallon tickets were usually blue.
