As a second-generation immigrant, I’m interested in how domestic spaces become liminal—shaped by both tradition and adaptation, existing between cultures.
These still lifes depict ordinary things: faux marble finishes, second-hand wooden furniture, novelty memorabilia. Some are tied to memory, others are just background. Together, they speak to the habits, histories, and hybrid identities that quietly shape a diasporic home—a blend of what’s inherited, adapted, or simply there.
In these familiar interiors, a subtle sense of isolation lingers: objects out of place, spaces caught between belonging and disconnection.Accession NumberG2025.3.1Access AdviceFor research purposes only. No reproduction without permission of Yarrila Arts and Museum.
