The hills to the North send down the rain in the wet time and there are permanent springs to the south. Many years ago, my grandfather built a big wall when he was working in that area, to make sure the waterholes would be full all year around and not just depend on the underground water. He left his handprints in the concrete on that wall. The deep swimming hole is beautiful - always cold even in summer and shaded by the biggest fig tree. As kids we used to swim there and collect sugarbag (wild honey). My people still take their children there for camping and holidays - it's not too far from Turkey Creek (Warmun Community). I have painted the country at the start of the wet time, with the land looking pretty and the creeks and waterholes starting to fill up, helped by the big spring in the middle.Accession Number017.2019Access AdviceFor research purposes only.
