This plaque was fixed to the door at the top of the South Solitary Island Lighthouse in 1879.
Chance Brothers made beautiful optics and the one for South Solitary is a first order dioptric lens.

Description
Plaque from South Solitary Island Lighthouse, brass on wooden base. The plaque reads: "Chance Brothers & Co Lighthouse Engineers & Constructors Near Birmingham 1878". There are four screws holding the plaque to the base, and residue of green and red paint in the lettering.
