Lighthouse Keeper's Cap
Lighthouse keepers worked for the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service, which was established in 1913. Ensuring that the light shone each and every night was a serious duty and was reflected in the formality of winter and summer uniforms. This cap was worn by Robert James Smith who worked on South Solitary Island from 1957 to 1961.
Description
Lighthouse keeper's cap, plastic and fabric. Cap peak is shiny black on upper side, green below. White cap cover is buttoned at the back by two buttons. Cap at front over hang over peak measures 5cm, back at button oval 4cm. Inside: head band in brown leather 5cm wide.
