Description
Colour postcard of the Guru Nanak Sikh Temple, Woolgoolga. The Sikh Temple (or gurdwara) features an entrance gate noting the name and opening date of the temple (3 January 1970) in both Gurmukhi and English. In the centre of the gate is written Ik Onkar, the first phrase of the Sikh holy scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib. On the right of the image is a flag pole, the top of which is decorated with the Sikh khanda symbol. The khanda is made up of three types of weaponry associated with the Sikh faith; the chakkar (a circular throwing weapon), a khanda (a double-edged sword) and two crossed kirpan (single-edged swords). The edges of the postcard are scalloped.
