Les Oxford worked in road construction, helping to build roads on the Waterloo, Ben Lomond and Gibraltar Ranges near Glen Innes and in Darwin during the War. He describes arriving in Darwin after the harbour was bombed. Les moved to Coffs Harbour in 1938 for a job in the Railways, and later worked in Public Works constructing the sewerage system and for the Shire Council.
