Sandy Betts recalls his experiences during the Depression in Newcastle. During the war he joined the Light Horse in Armidale, though he rode motorbikes rather than horses. In 1942 he was stationed in Coffs Harbour, and he recalls that it was considered a certainty that the Japanese would land here. His work involved patrolling the beaches and checking that explosives laid on the mountain roads hadn't been tampered with. Sandy was later sent to Borneo to fight, and he recalls his experiences there. Sandy also recalls his time playing and refereeing for local rugby league teams. The interview ends abruptly.
