This is in the north part, with the big hills and high mountains. Date Palm was a community for our people in the middle of that high country long time ago. Noone lives there now. They've all moved into the bigger communities and towns around the Kimberley. One really big limestone hill in yellow in the middle there and the blacksoil country all around. Those hills each side, well that's where the old people would get the Jimbala (quartz rock for spearheads) where those grey bits are with no grass any time. The old people walked to get to their community. In the Wet time, there was so much water around here that everyone was cut off and had to stay on the community. But there was always plenty of good bush tucker like kangaroo and wild turkey - really good part of the country and we still go there camping for holiday time.Accession Number035.2019Access AdviceFor research purposes only.
